2021 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime Now Available in Barrhaven

Toyota continues to be a leader in alternative powertrain vehicles. The 2021 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime are now available in Barrhaven for drivers who want to live an eco-friendlier lifestyle.

What to Expect

The 2021 Toyota Prius and 2021 Toyota Prius Prime are very similar vehicles with one major difference--their powertrains. The 2021 Toyota Prius is a traditional hybrid vehicle with a gasoline engine and electric battery while the Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which means it can run exclusively in EV mode for a period of time before switching over to the gasoline engine.

New Features

The Toyota Prius and Prius Prime received several enhancements for 2021, including upgraded driver-assist features, including road-sign recognition, improved pedestrian detection, and bicycle detection. They also both now come standard with Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Design

Since its inception, the Toyota Prius (and now the Prius Prime) have had futuristic exterior designs that look more like a spaceship than a hatchback. However, this unique styling is fun and modern, setting the Prius apart from other hatchbacks on the market. The Prius and Prius Prime feature an unconventional dashboard layout with a central command centre on top of the dashboard and centred between the driver and passenger. Storage space is ample for both the 2021 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime, though the cargo area is smaller than similar, non-hybrid sedans that do not have to lose room to electric batteries.

Performance

The 2021 Toyota Prius is built with a 1.8-litre four-cylinder VVT-I engine that delivers 120 horsepower and 4.5 L/100km combined fuel economy. The Prius offers more than enough power for confident driving and handling in all traffic conditions. The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime features the same four-cylinder engine as the Prius but includes a larger, rechargeable electric motor and battery pack to maximize its efficiency. It provides an all-electric driving range of 40km before the gasoline engine kicks in. In total, the Prime can deliver a 1,035km combined electric/hybrid driving range.

Infotainment

Both the 2021 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa connectivity. In addition, the vehicles offer an AM/FM radio, CD players, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.

Safety

Both Toyota models also feature Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, offering technologies such as blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, lane tracing assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and bicycle detection, lane departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.
